The first ever print version of Bullfinch is now available via the Th3rdworld studios web store! The Bullfinch comic is a collection of most of my favorite strips and stories created so far. It is 28 pages and is black and white interior with a full color cover. The book will be 5$ and a special artist edition will be priced at 10$ and will include a sketch card done by me. The sketch cards will be original artwork and not prints. Faaaaaaantastic!
Friday and Saturday I attended the Philadelphia comic-con with the guys from Th3rdworld studios and Shocker Toys. Despite the show being a tad smaller (DC and Marvel went to Hero-Con in Carolina) than usual we still had some good traffic, especially on a rainy Saturday.
I drove down from Syracuse with the world famous comic book writer, and Th3rdworld tent pole, Mike Raicht. Anyone who follows my Twitter feed knows how difficult that can be at times (an Ipod with Asia, and the Kiss disco album?! Really?!). We met up with the CEO of Th3rdworld, Mike Devito, in Philly and set up early on Friday. We shared booth space with the guys from Shocker Toys who are a lot of fun to hang with. I had the print version of Bullfinch on hand as well as the offerings from Th3rdworld, especially the newest volume of Superfogeys featuring the (now fake) death of Doctor Rocket. Most of my days were spent doing sketches and selling people on our various offerings, like The Stuff of Legend which is available next month from Raicht and the fantastic artist Charles Paul Wilson III who was with us on Saturday, as well as his actual pages from the book. His pencils are some of the most fantastic I’ve seen in person and his full color covers up close are unbelievable!
Dawn from the wonderful comic Zorphbert and Fred met me at the con as well. We both grilled Brad Guigar from Evil Inc. about web-comics and printing information. He’s a great guy to talk to about those things, he’s always very open about discussing those things. Unless he’s the greatest actor I’ve ever met.
Friday night after the con was filled with the usual odd moments. A 40 of Coors light, Lou Ferrigno, random stealth bottle attack shattering on the lobby floor, Settlers of Catan, Orioles vs. the Phillies, a band called Saga; you know the usual crap.

Sunday was the annual AIDSwalk/run here in central New York, which took place at the Beaver Lake Nature center in Baldwinsville. Participants can either walk the trails or run a 10k race as we celebrate our efforts to raise money for a good cause.
This year I was asked to do an appearance featuring my web-comic and do sketches for kids. I was a little taken aback by the offer, but honored, and I accepted immediately! We had a great time at the event and I was able to hand out a lot of sketches of superheroes and prints of Bullfinch comics. We only had 2 hours before the walk/run so the time went by ultra fast and I had to squeeze in some time for stretching, too.
Last year I attended and walked with the majority of people but secretly I wanted to run. So this year I trained a little harder and signed up for the 10k run. It was a blast, I’ve never run in an actual race before and I really enjoyed the competition as well as the crowd cheering (which I never experience running in the dark at 10pm around my house). I placed 43rd out of 150 or so runners, a little disappointing but I was happy with completing the race (and passing a number of younger competitors!).
Overall my team and I raised about 1,000 dollars (not bad for 6 adults and a 10 year old) and the overall take for the charity was over $187,000. Great weather, free food and drinks for the crowd and the runners, and all for a good cause. WIN
In case you didn’t see the write up in Superfogeys this week over at th3rdworld.com, I was recently interviewed over at the villian’s corner which is a great podcast about web-comics and the creator of web-comics. Great guys to talk to about the origin of Bullfinch and how I began the art gig over at Superfogeys! We also talked shop about Micron pens and the pros and cons of working manually versus digitally and other ins and outs of the creative side of comics. It wound up being a lot of fun! I’m still requesting donations for the AIDSwalk/run coming up in June! Just hit the button and donate to my site. You can even paypal it! Actually the woman who runs the event contacted me about setting up a table at the event and doing sketches and possibly some art lessons for kids. It steamrolled from there and expanded into a three hour gig over at Carousel Mall where I will be doing an appearance with 107.9FM as they do a camp-in inside the mall raising money for the AIDSwalk charity. I don’t know how these things happen, they just do. As long as Bullfinch gets some new readers, I’ve done my job.
