Yes, It’s June 8th and Bullfinch has not returned, but fear not! There is a very good explanation, most of it has to do with my coloring/lettering process which is done in Adobe Photoshop. Three weeks ago my version of Photoshop 7 ( uh, yeah 7) stopped working. It refused to initialize and would not run. This basically wreaked havoc on my creation process and even bled into my Superfogeys:Origins schedule which used to have a great buffer. I can draw and ink by hand, though I like my tablet for that, but arranging the file and coloring were a no go.
I ordered the newer version at great expense, but my computer is getting old and I felt the CS4 version would run safely, but not the new CS5. The online company I ordered it from crapped out on me and neglected to tell me they never shipped it and eventually refunded my money. This cost me another two weeks while I waited in vain.
Funny thing about enormously powerful and versatile software programs, you basically can’t get them over a retail counter. I searched for hours and days to find someone local and found nothing. I spent the weekend in Washington DC for a wedding and ran into the same issue.
After some prodding and cajoling by a friend and my brother I came to realize that my best bet for now and for the future was finally switching to a Macintosh and buying the new Photoshop CS5. I pulled the trigger at great expense and am eagerly awaiting my new Mac and greater graphical power.
I’m doing this not only for my beloved comics but also for my future as an artist. These new tools will allow me to take my budding career to new levels and achieve an artistic plateau I’ve been dreaming of for years.
Thanks for being patient with me! This is going to be an exciting year for Bullfinch, don’t miss it!
